A few days after Eric Pickles failed to get CCTV enforcement vehicles banned outside schools Cambridgeshire County Council launched a road safety video featuring hundreds of primary school children that encourages parents not to flout parking laws outside schools. A road safety spokesman for the council said that parking issues outside schools were one of the most common issues they dealt with and police officers urged antisocial parents to “shape up and stop wasting police time”. Earlier in the year the police had a crackdown on the “nightmare” illegal parking outside Cambridge schools following reported fights between parents with some success!
And here is a photo I took a few days ago outside a local primary school shortly before children started arriving. The caretaker puts cones out on the zig-zags every day because they are ignored otherwise by some parents, and even when they do put them out I have seen parents squeezing into the spaces at the end of them! When will our politicians ‘brave up’ and realise that they should be supporting our schools, kids, councils and the police instead of listening to a minority of drivers who cause so many difficulties for the rest of us?

Well done the children with their safety video. All we got to do now is hope that parents’ take the cotton wool out of their ears and take note.
What the parents do not get they think that they are with their child so they wont come to harm. They forget that seeing one of their friends getting killed because of parking outside the schools will leave it mark on their children. I still think of a friend that got killed going to school that was well over 50 years ago. Its a memory I wish I never had. People say get over it how can people do that when a child get killed for what save a few yards and a walk. When all they have to do is leave home 5 minutes sooner then walk your child the rest of the way it would do you both more good than harm.
Please take note of these children and what they are saying. As for you Kids keep up the good work and don rest until you spot all from parking outside your schools. As for you parents that park outside schools you should be ashamed of yourselves. Please that note I do hope it not it could be your loved one that is next to get killed.

Excellent video. So many parents would claim that they are protecting their children by parking as they do and won’t acknowledge that they are endangering other children by their actions. Really selfish behaviour on their part.
The attitude that illegal parking (along with so many other motoring offences) are just “minor” matters is something that needs to be challenged and changed. Sadly our police forces are not willing to tackle this and our politicians (as evidenced by Eric Pickles) are far too quick to pander to the motoring lobby.
