See Me Save Me is a new campaign to make HGVs safer and reduce the shocking levels of injury inflicted by them on vulnerable road users, particularly on cyclists but also pedestrians. The campaign is pressing for better design of trucks, improved on-vehicle safety technology and better design of junctions.
Only 5% of vehicles on the road in the UK are HGVs but they are involved in about 50% of cyclist deaths. The number of cyclists killed on UK roads has risen in each of the past three years
Peter,
Thanks for this. I hope that the current Times campaign has the desired effect. For too long the steady drip, drip, drip of casualties among VRUs has become non-news. We needed something to shake-things up and let’s hope that the time for change has come.
To give credit where credit is due I understand that The Times campaign is linked to this campaign and that RoadPeace have been working very hard on it for some time. It is now up to us to ensure that the politicians and other relevant organisations don’t ignore it any more.
is this still a problem in your area? Being involved in the HGV industry I try to teach roast saftey awareness in drivers – I just hope it is working
